The Bread of Life

We were able to find a Bible store near our apartment in Antigua. They happened to have a Bible with 19 point font, the largest print they had ever sold. A couple of days ago, I was able to deliver the Bible to Bacilia’s home with one of her daughters.
When Bacilia saw the gift, she praised God and was so thankful. I showed her how large the letters were, and she immediately began reading from the Bible with ease. She was filled with joy knowing that she would be able to read God’s Word again.
Before I left her home, she blessed me with a verse from Acts:
“Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent, for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many in this city who are my people.” Acts 18:9–10
The next day, her daughter shared with me that before receiving the Bible, Bacilia had been weeping because she could no longer read God’s Word. She had also been praying to the Lord that she would somehow, someway, be able to read His Word again.
Another one of Bacilia’s daughters came to visit her mom shortly after we left. The daughter asked Bacilia where she had gone to buy the Bible. Bacilia replied, “I didn’t. An angel of God brought it to me, right here in my house. God heard my prayers and answered.” (Translated from Spanish.)
Her joy was such that she could not keep it to herself or confined to her home. Later that day, she shared with her friends and neighbors what God had done.
May we never lose our desire for God’s Word, and may God always grant us the ability to engage with His Word every day.

Last week, Brandy and I became aware of a seasoned saint named Bacilia, who is 95 years old. She has been walking with the Lord for a long time and has served Him in her local church for 40 years. She used to love reading God’s Word, and it was very important to her. However, as she aged, her eyesight grew weaker and weaker, and she was no longer able to read His Word because the print was too small. Glasses are not financially an option for her.
God’s Word is so very important to Brandy and me, and we know the life giving and life transforming power of engaging with His Word every day.
